Ragi idli Recipe | Millet Idli Recipe | Nagli Idli

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup Ragi / Finger Millet / Nagli
  • ½ cup Rice
  • ½ cup Spilt White Urad dal
  • 1 tsp Methi seeds
  • ¼ cup Poha (thick)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for greasing

Step by step method of preparing Ragi idli Recipe | Millet Idli Recipe | Nagli Idli

  • Wash and soak the ragi,rice,methi seeds and urad dal separately in enough water for at least 4-6 hours or overnight.
  • Drain the water from both the ragi,rice,methi seeds and urad dal.
  • Soak the thick poha(flattened rice) for 5 minutes.
  • Grind soaked poha along with urad dal,ragi,methi seeds & rice into a smooth batter using a little water as needed.
  • The batter should be light and fluffy and smooth.
  • Mix batter together in a large bowl.
  • Add salt and mix until well combined.
  • If the batter is too thick,add a little water to reach the desired consistency,which should be similar to regular idli batter.
  • Cover the batter and allow it to ferment for 8 hours or overnight.
  • The fermentation process is essential for the idlis to become soft and fluffy.
  • Once the batter has fermented,gently mix it and adjust the salt if needed.
  • Grease the idli molds with a little oil or ghee.
  • Pour the batter into the greased idli molds,filling each mold about two-thirds full.
  • Steam the idlis in an idli steamer or a regular steamer for about 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of an idli comes out clean.
  • Remove the idlis from the molds using a spoon or knife and serve hot with coconut chutney,sambar or any other chutney of your choice.
  • Your healthy Ragi idli is ready to serve.
