Vatli Dal | Vatli Dal Recipe

Ingredients :
- 1 cup Chana Dal | Harbhara Dal (split chickpeas)
- 5- 6 Green Chillies
- ¼ cup Grated Fresh Coconut
- ¼ tsp Hing (asatofida)
- ½ tsp Haldi (turmeric powder)
- 1 tsp Jeera (cumin seeds)
- 1 tsp Mohri (mustard seeds)
- 1 tsp Sugar
- Curry leaves for tempering
- Salt to taste
- 2-3 tbsp Cooking Oil
Step by step method of preparing Vatli Dal | Vatli Dal Recipe :
- Soak chana dal for 4-5 hours.
- Once properly soaked drain the water completely from the dal.
- Add the drained dal to the mixer jar.
- Add green chillies in it.
- Now grind the dal and chillies on pulse mode.
- Grind the dal to a coarse texture,don’t make fine paste.
- Now add oil to the pan.
- Temper oil with curry leaves,hing,jeera,mustard seeds and haldi.
- Saute it.
- Now add coarsely grinded dal to the tempering.
- Add salt & sugar to it.
- Keep mixing dal continuously so that the dal does not sticks the pan.
- Cover the dal and cook for few minutes.
- Keep on sauting the dal so that it does not sticks to the bottom of pan.
- If you find dal too dry sprinkle some water on it.
- Again cover & cook for few minutes.
- Your Vatli dal is done.
- Garnish it with freshly grated coconut and serve hot.
Recipe Notes :
- Drain the water completely from the soaked chana dal before grinding.
- Grind the soaked dal to a coarse texture.
- Cook the dal on low to medium flame.
- See that it doesn’t sticks to the bottom of pan.
- If you find dal too dry try sprinkling some water on it.
- You can add red chilli powder for extra taste while cooking.
