Methi Namkeen Sticks | Masala Mathri Sticks | Masala Methi Sticks are crispy savoury snacks that are served during teatime or enjoyed as a side snack in house parties.

These are made of very few ingredients like maida,dry fenugreek leaves/kasuri methi,carom seeds and oil.They are coated with a special spice powder which gives chatpata namkeen like taste to the sticks.

The exact measurements of the ingredients and the patience while fry results in a crispy and flaky methi sticks.You can try with different flavours also.

My daughter’s simply love them…we usually have the tradition of preparing these snacks item during Diwali,but in my house we have the tradition of preparing it whenever we have the mood of eating them..

Methi Namkeen Sticks / Masala Mathri Sticks

INGREDIENTS :

To make methi sticks
  • 2 cups maida/all purpose flour/मैदा
  • 1/3 cup smoke hot oil / ghee (कडकडीत तापलेले तेल) (here I hav used sunflower oil)
  • 2 tsp coarsely grinded carom seeds (ओवा)
  • 2 tbsp kasuri methi (कसूरी मेथी)
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ½ cup or bit more water for kneeding
  • Oil for frying
To make spice powder mix
  • ½ tsp turmeric (हळद)
  • ½ tsp chaat masal (चाट मसाला)
  • ½ tsp chilli powder (लाल तिखट)
  • ½ tsp kasuri methi (कसूरी मेथी)
  • Black salt as required (काळ मीठ)

Step By Step Method Of Making Methi Namkeen Sticks | Masala Mathri Sticks | Masala Methi Sticks

To make methi sticks
  • Sieve the maida first.
  • Coarsely grind the carom seeds.
  • On the gas heat 1/3 cup of oil to smoking point.
  • In a bowl or plate add the sieved maida,carom seeds,kasuri methi,salt.
  • Mix everything well.
  • Now add the smoking hot oil to the mixed flour.
  • Mix nicely.
  • Mix the dry flour and oil with your hand in such a way that when you take the flour in your hand you should be able to hold the flour.
  • Now add water in batches.
  • Kneed a tight dough.
  • Keep the kneeded dough aside for 15-30 minutes.
  • Now take a small ball size dough and roll it in a circular way like we do for making chapati / roti.
  • The rolled chapati should be semi thick.
  • Cut the rolled chapati in long strips with help of cutter or knife.
  • These are your methi sticks.
  • Remove the excess of unshaped dough.
  • Remove them into a plate.
  • Heat the oil in a pan or kadhai.
  • Insert the cut methi sticks in the oil.
  • Fry them in the oil on medium flame with great patience..
  • Fry till they turns golden brown.
  • Remove them into the plates.
  • Your crispy Methi Sticks are ready to eat.
  • Serve them when you have tea.
To make spice powder mix
  • Add turmeric,chaat masala,chilli powder,kasuri methi and black salt as required to a mixer jar.
  • Grind them.
  • Your spice mix to coat the methi sticks is ready.
  • In a bowl take the fried methi sticks.
  • Now add the spice mix powder as required to the sticks.
  • Toss both the methisticks and spice powder in such a way that the powder is evenly coated to the methi sticks.
  • And here are your tasty Methi Namkeen Sticks | Masala Methi Mathri Sticks.
  • These is a great snack dish that can be enjoyed with friends & families during festive celebrations & house parties.
