Fasting food are observed as high calorie food.Still are always eated with chaos.But most of the times leads to stomach issues.To overcome this problem and to have a healthy fast,Upwasache Dhirde or Farali Chilla are the good options. These are prepared using and a very small proportion of sago or sabudana.Here samo rice,samvat or varai rice (also known as barnyard millet) and sago are soaked in water for 2-3 hours….

These both are grinded along with peanut powder or roasted peanuts and green chillies to a very smooth and fine paste.

This fine mixture is the batter for dosa or dhirde.A very easy and light form of fasting food prepared in my house.It is served with peanut curry or we call it as upwasache zhirka.I like to add diced boiled potatoes to this curry.It makes the dish complete on fasting days.

Upwasache Dhirde


INGREDIENTS :

  • 2 cups Samo rice / भगर
  • ½ cup Sago / Sabudana / साबुदाणा
  • ¼ cup Peanut powder / शेंगदाण्याचा कूट
  • 8-9 green chillies / हिरव्या मिरच्या (adjust as per your taste)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking

INGREDIENTS


METHOD :

  • Wash samo rice and sabudana and soak for 1-2 hours or till sabudana gets soak properly.
  • Now drain off the water.
  • Transfer the ingredients to the mixer.
  • Add roasted peanut powder and green chillies to it.
  • Grind to a very fine and smooth paste.
  • Add extra water as required.
  • Remove the batter in a bowl.
  • Add salt to taste.
  • Adjust the consistency of the batter by adding water.
  • The consistency should be like dosa batter.
  • Heat the tawa and pour the batter onto the tawa and spread it in circular motion into a thin layer like dosa.
  • Add oil on either side and flip it and again add oil to the dhirde.
  • Cook till it gets cook nicely from both sides.
  • A nice and crisp upwasache dhirde or chilla is ready.
  • Serve it hot with upwas zhirka or any farali chutney.

  • Serve it hot with upwas zhirka or any farali chutney.
