Birth of Lord Krishna : Gokulashtami marks the birth of Lord Krishna,who is believed to be the eighth incarnation (avatar) of Lord Vishnu.According to Hindu mythology,Lord Krishna was born in the city of Mathura in northern India in the Dwapara Yuga in a prison cell to Devaki and Vasudeva more than 5,000 years ago.It is said that Lord Krishna was born at midnight,and this moment is often celebrated with great enthusiasm.
Divine Leelas (Pastimes) of Krishna : In the region of Vrindavan, the birthplace of Lord Krishna,a colorful and elaborate reenactment of the divine love stories between Lord Krishna and the gopis (cowherd girls) is performed.This dance drama is known as “Rasa Leela.”
