Satyanarayan Prasad | Prasadacha Sheera | Banana Sheera refers to a specific version of sheera or semolina pudding that is prepared as an offering during the Satyanarayan Puja,a Hindu ritual dedicated to Lord Satyanarayana a form of Lord Vishnu.
Importance Of Sheera
The ritual of preparing sheera is often performed by Hindu households to seek the blessings of Lord Satyanarayana for happiness, prosperity, and well-being.It is also prepared as prasad or bhog in Hindu temples or during religious ceremonies like Ganesh Chaturthi,Gokulashtmi and many other hindu festivals.
This sheera is considered sacred and is distributed to devotees as a blessed food offering. The preparation of Prasad Sheera is similar to the regular sheera recipe, but it is made with utmost cleanliness and devotion. It is mostly served on banana leaves.

Basic Ingredients Needed
The ingredients used while making sheera are taken in equal proportion i.e.same quantity of ingredients by measurement are used while making prasad sheera.Hence it differs from our regular sheera recipe.
- Rava | Semolina | Suji : You’ll need a regular rava variety.
- Ghee: Please do not reduce the amount of ghee.It adds nice flavor and richness.See that you don’t add cooking oil to make sheera. It doesn’t taste good at all.If you’re making it as a prasad sheera then you must use cow’s ghee.
- Sugar : Regular white sugar is used.
- Milk : Full-fat whole milk is highly recommended for a rich, creamy texture.Generally cow’s milk is used for making prasad sheera. The rava will absorb the milk and swell up.Stir well for a lump-free mixture.Add the hot milk in batches and stir every time.
- Dry fruits or Nuts : Chopped or sliced almonds and cashews are used.
- Elaichi or Cardamom Powder : This adds extra flavours to the sheera.
- Banana : This is a must for prasad sheera. It gives a nice taste to the sheera.
- Tulsi Leaves : Tulsi leave is placed over the prasad before offering to God.
Tips While Preparing Sheera
- Adding rava | suji | semolina into hot ghee makes the rava puff up nicely and result in a fluffy texture. So always add rava in hot ghee.
- Roasting rava is an important stepto get the best texture of sheera.Roast with stirring continuously until rava gets light, fluffy, slightly golden, and aromatic.
- During the entire sheera making process, keep the heat low-medium.If you roast the rava on medium to high heat, rava will get colour soon or will get burnt without being properly roasted.
- Whether it’s the rava roasting process or after adding milk,or sugar you’ll need to stir constantly from start to finish.
- Always add hot milk.Never add cold or room-temperature milk
