
Kokum Drink Concentrate Recipe | Homemade Kokum Drink is originally Goan beverage widely consumed during hot summer’s.Kokum is also known as Aamsul which is grown in western coastal parts of Konkan in Maharashtra,Goa and Karnataka.
Uses & Health Benefits Of Kokum
- In dry form due to its sour taste is widely used as souring agent in many dishes for marination.
- It is a good alternative for tamrind in many dishes.
- Kokum Sharbat/Kokum Drink is a famous and delicious refreshing cold drink.
- Also useful to ease acidity and to improve digestion.
- Heals stomach ulcer’s and problems of constipation.
- It helps in dehydration.

Ingredients Needed For Preparing Kokum Concentrate
Here we are preparing cocentrate from dry Kokum or Aamsul.
- Dry Kokum / Aamsul – It is easily available in local market.It is a dark purple to black coloured,sticky and with curled edges.When added to food it imparts a pink to purple colour and has sour taste.Dry kokum is obtained from outer cover of Kokum fruit which is dried in the Sun.

- Sugar – To balance the sour taste of the dry kokum,sugar is added to give the sweet taste to the drink.
- Black Salt – It is a natural taste enhancer.It is a cooling salt that makes it perfect for addition in summer drinks.Black salt has an ability to treat upset stomach,bloating,constipation & any other stomach problems.
- Cumin Powder / Jeera Powder – Roasted jeera powder is used to flavour the Kokum drink.It helps to detox our body.It makes digestion system better & makes gastric & bloating better.
- Cardamom Powder / Elaichi Powder – It is used as a flavouring agent.It is an antioxidant.Helps in digestive probblems.Also treats bad breath.

Ingredients :
- 1 cup Dry Kokum / Aamsul
- 2 cups Sugar
- ½ cup Water
- ½ tsp Cardamom Powder / Elaichi Powder
- 1 tsp Roasted Cumin Powder / Jeera Powder
- Black Salt as per taste

Step by step method of preparing Kokum Drink Concentrate Recipe | Homemade Kokum Drink
Preparation of Kokum Concentrate
- Soak the dry kokum for 1-2 hours.

- Then grind it in a mixer grinder to a fine paste.

- In a pan add sugar.
- Add water to the sugar.
- Melt the sugar & cook till one string consistency.

- Add the grinded paste of soaked kokum.
- Mix it well.

- Add cumin powder,elaichi powder and black salt as per taste.

- Mix again well.
- Cook for next 5-10 minutes.
- Now strain the prepared mixture through strainer nicely.

- Fine paste of kokum is obtained.
- This is your Kokum Concentrate.
Preparation Of Kokum Drink / Kokum Sharbat
- In a glass add 2-3 tbsp of kokum concentrate.
- Now add cold water & ice cubes to it.

- Mix it well.
- Your Homemade Kokum Drink or Kokum Sharbat is ready.
