
How to make Churma Laddoo | Whole Wheat Laddoo is a popular traditional Indian sweet that is nutritious,healthy and energy booster.It is one of the most popular sweet recipe of Gujarat and Rajasthan.
When are Churma Laddoo | Choorma Laddoo Made
- Churma laddoos is made on various auspicious occasions,weddings.
- These are made during Hanuman Jayanti in form of bhog(prasad).
- It is widely prepared during the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi festival and offered as prasad during ten days of celebrations.
- It is also made as a side dish along with Dal Bati.
Ingredients needed for making Laddoo’s
- Coarse wheat flour : Traditionally coarse wheat flour is used.But it is always not available.So regular roti wheat flour can be used.And to give the coarse texture semolina or rava is used.
- Ghee: It can be used as ‘moyen’ while making the dough.It acts as a binding agent to the ladoo.Also,it adds a rich flavor.
- Oil : Use any flavorless oil for frying.Traditionally ghee is used for frying.
- Warm water: Make sure to use lukewarm water (not room temperature or cold water).
- Nutmeg & Cardamom: Both add a nice flavor and aroma to the laddoos.
- Jaggery: Any kind of jaggery works (desi gur,powdered jaggery or kolhapuri jaggery).Use whatever is available.
- Drydruits : I have used almonds & cashews.
- Khaskhas (poppy seeds) : I have added it to give a crunchy bite while eating.But you can lightly roll the laddoos into the khaskhas as a garnishing.
How to make Churma Laddoo | Whole Wheat Laddoo traditionally
- Making a dough : A tight & stiff dough little difficult to knead is made from wheat flour,ghee,water along with semolina.
- Shaping the dough : After the rest,equally divide the dough in small portions, press and shape it randomly like a stick or muthia or bati.
- Cooking the shaped dough : Traditionally,these shaped dough portions are deep fried into the ghee until crisp.But in this recipe I have deep fried them in oil.
- Making Churma & Shaping ladoo : Deep fried sticks/muthiya are coarsely grinded to form churma & then melted jaggery & ghee are added to the powdered churma mixture.Add fried roasted poppy seeds,dryfruits,elaichi powder & grated jaiphal powder and mix it well with the grinded churma.

How to make Churma Laddoo | Whole Wheat Laddoo

Ingredients :
- 2 cups Wheat flour / Gheu ka atta
- 1 cup Semolina / Rava
- 1 cup Desi Ghee
- 1 ½ cup Grated Jaggery / Gur
- Dry fruits as needed
- 1 tsp Cardomon / Elaichi Powder
- ¼ tsp Jaiphal / Nutmeg powder
- 1 tbsp Poppy Seeds / Khas khas
- ¾ – 1 cup Luke warm water
- Oil or Desi Ghee for frying

Step by step method of preparing How to make Churma Laddoo | Whole Wheat Laddoo
Kneading Dough to Make Laddoo’s
- Add whole wheat flour(gheu ka atta) and rava in a mixing bowl.
- Add ghee to it.
- Rub it well,make sure the flour sticks well & when pressed with hands it should forms a shape.
- Once the ghee & atta is combined well,gradually add Luke warm water and knead to make a stiff dough.
- After kneading cover the dough with a damp cloth & rest for 15 minutes.
- After the rest,equally divide the dough in small portions,press and shape it randomly like a stick or muthia or bati.
- Try not to make a thick stick or muthiya’s or else it may remain raw from inside.
Making Of Churma
- Set a wok or a pan on low flame,add the oil or ghee and allow to heat moderately to shallow fry these sticks or muthiya’s.
- Once moderately heated,shallow fry them on low heat until they turn crisp & golden brown in colour.
- Fry them from all side by turning them carefully.
- Once fried,remove and allow to cool down completely.
- Further them into small pieces with hands and transfer in a mixer grinder and grind until coarse in texture.
- Further pass it through a sieve,make sure to use a little bigger size hole sieve.
- Your Churma for laddoos is ready.
Preparing Churma Laddoo’s
- In a pan dry roast poppy seeds or khas khas & remove in a plate.
- Next take ghee in a pan and add sliced dryfruits and fry properly.
- Use the same ghee used for frying dryfruits and heat it until its moderately hot.
- Add gud/jaggery & cook until the jaggery melts completely.
- Make sure not to overcook them or else they’ll harden as cooled down.
- Add the melted jaggery & ghee to the powdered churma mixture.
- Add fried roasted poppy seeds,dryfruits,elaichi powder & grated jaiphal powder and mix it well with the grinded churma.
- Take sufficient amount of filling & shape them in laddoo.
- Make sure do not press it hard while shaping or else the ghee may oose out.
- Churma laddoos are ready.
- You can store them in an airtight container and keep it stays good for couple of days.
