Batatyachi Bhaji | Suki Batata Bhaji is an easy,simple and popular Maharshtrian dish.A must dish on the plates during celebrations.It is prepared using boiled potatoes and basic spices.It pairs well with Poori and Chapati and can be used as filling for Parathas,Sandwiches,Rolls & Wraps & Dosa’s.

It is one of the most comforting food that is loved by each and everyone.It is favourite kids recipe also a very simple recipe that need no rocket science to prepare.A easy and quick recipe for the bachelors or new learners.

How Is Batata Bhaji Made

Batata Bhaji is made by using boiled potatoes and is tempered with basic spices like green chilli,curry leaves,jeera,mustard seeds and last but not least the turmeric or haldi that gives the signature yellow colour to the bhaji..

Sliced or finely chopped onions are added while making the bhaji.If using as filling then add the grinded paste of green chillies and ginger.

The potatoes are boiled or pressure cooked in cooker for 5-6 whistles on medium flame.Once cooked peel off the skin potatoes.Cut them into cubes.If you like onions then temper the oil with all spices and add sliced onions till they turn pinkish in colour.Add haldi and then cubed potaoes.Mix and garnish with fresh chopped coriander leaves….

Serving Options

All time favourite dish that can be carried in your tiffin box.A great classic dish which pairs best with Poori’s..A must dish in your Thali’s for festive occasions.

Can be used as a filling while making Aloo Paratha,Batata Wada,for Wraps& Rolls,in Sandwiches or eat simply with Indian flat bread Chapati.

Ingredients :

  • 1-2 tbsp Cooking Oil
  • 4-5 Medium sized Boiled Potatoes
  • 5-6 Green Chillies
  • Curry Leaves for tempering
  • 1 tsp Jeera | Cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp Mohri | Mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp Haldi | Turmeric Powder
  • Salt to Taste
  • Freshly Chopped Coriander for garnishing.

Step by step method of preparing Batatyachi Bhaji | Suki Batata Bhaji

  • Rinse the potatoes with water.
  • Pressure cook the potatoes in pressure cooker for 5-6 whistles.
  • Once cooked let them cool and then peel off the skin from potaoes.
  • Cut the potaoes into cubes & keep aside.
  • In a pan add oil.
  • Temper it with jeera,mustard seeds,hing,curry leaves and chopped green chillies.
  • Saute it.
  • If you want add sliced onions at this stage and cook them till onions turn pinkish in colour.
  • Next add haldi powder to the mixture and mix nicely.
  • Now add cubed potaoes to the pan.
  • Mix gently and cover the bhaji for 2-3 minutes.
  • Now garnish it with freshly chopped coriander.
  • Your fantastic Batata Bhaji is ready to serve….
  • Serve it hot with Poori,Chapati….
