
Puri Recipe | Sadhi Poori | Poori is a popular soft & fluffy Indian deep fried bread enjoyed as a breakfast or as a side dish companion for many Indian savory curries.It is prepared in most Indian households for the weekend & ceremonial meals.
In this recipe Puri’s are prepared with whole wheat flour(gheu ka atta),salt to taste,a bit sugar(this makes the poori’s crispier & gives the golden brown colour to the puri) and some carom seeds or ajwain or ova.Addition of carom seeds is totally optional.

This puri is served as a savory meal option with Aloo puri,Poori bhaji,Chole puri,Chana puri or simply try these puri’s with curd & pickle.If you love sweet meals then go for Shrikhand Puri,Basundi Puri,Halwa Puri,Kheer Puri Aamras Puri,Amrakhand Puri…..
Puri vs Bhatura
A variant of puri is bhatura,which is three times bigger than the puri.Bhatura are served with Chole.It often constitutes a full meal.Bhatura’s are made from all purpose flour(maida).Generally baking powder or yeast are added to make bhatura’s.
Different versions of Puri’s
Puri’s are prepared with wheat flour.But to add more flavours in some recipes,ajwain,jeera,spinach,fenugreek,jaggery are added to the dough.Many add rava or semolina while making them.
They are deep fried in any vegetable oil or in ghee.Pani Puri is also a popular form of puri which is a popular chaat dish.Bhel puri is another form where the rolled puri’s are pricked with a fork before deep frying so that they does not puff when cooked because steam escapes as it cooks.
Mathri is also a savory form of puri which enjoyed as a snacks.

Puri Recipe | Sadhi Poori | Poori

Ingredients :
- 3-4 cups Wheat flour
- Water as required
- 1 tsp Sugar (totally optional)
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 2 tsp Carom seeds/Ajwain/Ova (totally optional)
- Salt as per taste
- Oil for deep frying

Step by step method of preparing Sadhi Poori |Poori | Puri Recipe :
- Add wheat flour,sugar,carom seeds & salt to a plate.
- Mix them well.

- Add water gradually.
- Knead a tight dough.

- Oil the dough after kneading.
- Do not make the dough to rest for more time as soaked dough will absorb more oil.

- Now divide the dough into equal sized balls to roll the puri’s.

- Now roll medium sized puri’s out from this dough.

- Puri’s are to be rolled neither too thick nor too thin.Rolling them to correct thickness makes puri to puff well as too thick puri’s won’t puff and too thin will come out hard like papad.

- Meanwhile heat the oil in the kadhai or pan.
- Once oil gets heated up add the puri’s to it.
- Frying puri is very important.The oil should be hot enough or else the puri’s will soak up oil.
- Fry the puri’s unti they turn light golden brown.

- Press them while frying so they puff up evenly.
- Remove them into a plate.

- Serve this hot puri’s with your favourite curry or any sweet.

Recipe Notes :
- For good puri’s the dough should be kneaded tight.It must not be loose or sticky.
- Tight kneaded dough make puri’s puffy without soaking much oil.
- Do not make the dough to rest for more time as soaked dough will absorb more oil.
- Puri’s are to be rolled neither too thick nor too thin.Rolling them to correct thickness makes puri to puff well as too thick puri’s won’t puff and too thin will come out hard like papad.
- Frying puri is very important.The oil should be hot enough or else the puri’s will soak up oil.
