Sabut Masoor Dal or Whole Skinned Red Lentils is one of the healthy meal option in most of our Indian kitchens.The whole pulses are always a good options for cooking for their high nutritional values and high vitamin contents as compared to the spilt pulses.This Sabut or Whole Msaoor Dal when cooked with onions and tomatoes gives a delicious taste.This is a very simple recipe to make where we just have to pressure cook the dal and then just temper with the Indian spices…

Already said a healthy,fibre rich and full of vitamins option of meal.It goes nice with our own Indian bread i.e. Roti’s or Chapati’s and also Rice… You can also try other dal recipes…

INGREDIENTS :

  • 1 cup boiled whole masoor dal
  • 1 big chopped onion
  • 1 medium sized tomato
  • 7-8 crushed garlic cloves
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder ( adjust as per taste )
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • ¼ tsp mustard seeds
  • Chopped coriander leaves
  • 7-8 curry leaves for tempering
  • 3-4 tbsp Oil




METHOD :

  • Wash the whole masoor dal first.
  • Pressure cook the dal for 4-5 whistles.
  • After pressure cooked mash the dal.(This step of mashing of dal is as per your choice.You can keep it as it is also.)
  • Now in a pan add the oil for heating.
  • Temper the oil with cumin seeds,mustard seeds,curry leaves and crushed garlic cloves.
  • Saute the tempering nicely.
  • Now add the chopped onions and saute till they turn golden brown.
  • Add chopped tomato and again give a nice mix.
  • Once the tomatoes get properly cooked add turmeric,garam masala,coriander powder and red chilli powder.
  • Add salt as per taste.
  • Saute everything nicely.
  • Now add the cooked masoor dal to the pan.
  • Give everything a nice mix.
  • Add required amount of water to the mixture and stir it.
  • Adjust the consistency of the gravy as required.I had kept a semi thick gravy.
  • Now add chopped coriander leaves to the gravy.
  • Let it cook for next 10 minutes.
  • Your tempting Whole Masoor Dal / Masoor Dal Aamti is ready.
  • Serve it hot with Roti’s or Chapati’s or Rice.
