Uradachi Aamti is an authentic Maharashtrian dish.Its nothing but a curry made from mixed pulses like split black urad dal (not whole black urad dal) and chana dal.Here we are adding chana dal so that the gravy gets a smooth and thick texture.

Mixed pulses have a very high level of proteins in them.Hence it is a good option for vegeterians.Also these mixed pulses maintains our digestive system and boosts our energy levels.So having them in our diet is really essential.

Here I am preparing this dal aamti in traditional desi style where we are not going to use any kind of garam masala’s.Instead we are going to prepare it with the fresh desi masala’s like whole coriander seeds,ginger,garlic.green chillies and sliced dry coconuts.And mind,the curry’s prepared by using this fresh desi masala’s tastes divine…

This aamti was often prepared by mother…and the same trend continues in my family also.The aamti is generally served with Bajra Bhakri and Rice.You can have it with Chapati’s also but traditionally it goes perfect with Bhakri’s only…

So lets quick start with this recipe..



URADACHI AAMTI | DESI URAD DAL AAMTI | SPLIT BLACK URAD DAL AAMTI|उडदाची आमटी

INGREDIENTS :

  • ½ cup split urad dal|काळी उडद  डाळ
  • ¼ cup chana dal|हरभऱ्याची डाळ
  • 7-8 green chillies|हिरव्या मिरच्या
  • 7-8 garlic cloves|लसूण
  • ½ inch ginger|आलं
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds|धने
  • 1/4 cup sliced dry coconut|खोबऱ्याचे काप
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds|जिरा
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • Curry leaves|कडीपत्ता
  • Coriander leaves|कोथिंबिर to garnish.
  • 2-3 tbspoon cooking oil
  • Salt to taste



METHOD :

  • Wash both the dals properly.
  • Now pressure cook both the dal.
  • Cook it in a pressure cooker to 4-5 whistles.(urad dal need more time to cook so if required cook for 2 more whistles).
  • Once the dal gets cooked smash it coarsely with the help of potato smasher.
  • In a mixer grinder add sliced dry coconuts,green chillies,garlic,ginger,coriander seeds,cumin seeds,turmeric powder and curry leaves.
  • Add about ¼ cup or more water while grinding.This helps to make a smooth paste.
  • Grind them altogether to very fine smooth paste.
  • Add the oil to the pan and heat it.
  • Once the oil gets heated up temper the oil with curry leaves.
  • As the leaves starts spluttering add the grinded paste to the oil.
  • Give it a nice mix.
  • Cook the paste till it releases the oil.
  • Now add the smashed dal to the pan.
  • Mix the paste and the dal evenly.
  • Add required amount of water to it.
  • The consistence of the aamti should be not thick.It should be of medium thickness.
  • Now add salt and chopped coriander leaves.
  • Let the dal cook for next 10-15 minutes.
  • Your urad dal aamti is ready to eat.
  • Serve it with hot Bajra Bhakri and Rice and with some diced onions and lemon to enhance the taste of Uradachi Aamti…..
