RAVA UTTAPAM | SUJI UTTAPAM | INSTANT RAVA UTTAPAM

Rava or Semolina or Suji Uttapam is one of the popular South Indian Recipe.Rava/Suji Uttapam is variation of traditional uttapam.The batter is a mixture of rava/suji,curd/dahi and water.Unlike Dosa which is thin and crisp in nature,Uttapam is a thick pancake with traditionally made toppings of vegetables like onion,tomatoes,chillies and coriander leaves.It is generally served with Sambhar and Coconut chutney or Chana-dal Coconut chutney.

It comes under Instant category because we don’t have to wait for the fermentation process.Once all the ingredients are mixed and kept aside for 10-20 minutes you can start for the cooking process.

Also it is a healthy option and and can be quickly prepared for tiffins.

INGREDIENTS :

FOR UTTAPAM BATTER :

  • 2 cups rava/suji/semolina
  • ½ cup rice flour
  • 1 cup curd/dahi
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required

FOR TOPPING :

  • 2 medium sized onion chopped
  • 2 medium sized tomatoes chopped
  • 4-5 green chillies chopped
  • Chopped coriander leaves
  • Oil for cooking


METHOD :

FOR MAKING UTTAPAM BATTER :

  • In a bowl add rava/suji.
  • To it add the rice flour.
  • Now add curd/dahi.
  • Add salt to taste.
  • Mix it well.
  • Now add water to the mixture as required.
  • The consistency of the batter should be like idli batter.
  • It should not be too flowy.
  • Give everything a nice mix.
  • Your batter for uttapam is ready.
  • Keep it aside for 10 minutes.

FOR MAKING UTTAPAM :

  • Onto the pan add bit oil.
  • Now pour the uttapam batter on the tava.
  • Spread it in circular motion as we do for dosa.
  • But here thickness should be more than that of dosa and also the diameter should be less than that of dosa.
  • Now top it with chopped vegetables like onion,tomatoes,green chillies and coriander.
  • Cover it with the lid for 1 minute.
  • Remove the lid add oil over the uttapam and flip it to other side.
  • Now cook till it gets nice cooked from other side also.
  • Add extra oil if required.
  • Your Rava/Suji Uttapam is ready.
  • Serve it either with Coconut Chutney or Chana-dal Coconut Chutey.



RECIPE NOTE :

  • Instead of curd/dahi you can add butter milk for making the batter.
  • Also you can use ghee or butter instead of oil.It also gives a nice taste to uttapam.
  • You can add chopped carrots,capsicum for the toppings of uttapam.
