Bhogichi Mix Bhaji | Bhogichi Bhaji is an authentic Maharashtrian dish.It is prepared on the auspicious day of Bhogi which comes a day before Makarsankranti.On this day to every food that is prepared,sesame seeds/til are added.On the day of Bhogi,Bajra Bhakri,Moong Dal Khichdi and Kadhi is prepared.

Sesame seeds / til are hot in nature,and in it is found that consuming them in various forms in winters provides warmth to the body during the cold winters.Also our body needs the more nutrients during winters ,so eating these seasonal mix vege’s with sesame seeds provides all the essential needs to our body.

Bhogichi Bhaji is a mix of different seasonal vegetables.It mainly consists of fresh green peas, fresh green chana/ harbhara , carrots,brinjal,tomatoes and flat green beans/vaal papdi.It is seasoned with spices to which sesame seed powder is added to get that authentic flavour.This bhaji goes nice with Bajra Bhakri. It can be prepared in totally dry form or semi dry form or with a gravy.

INGREDIENTS :

VEGETABLES :

  • 1 cup chopped carrots
  • 1 cup chopped flat beans/vaal-papdi
  • ½ cup green peas
  • ½ cup green chana/harbara
  • 1-2 chopped brinjals
  • ½ cup chopped tomatoes
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
Ingredients

SPICES :

  • 6-7 cloves of garlic (crush the garlic)
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds/jeera
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds/mohri
  • 1-2 tsp chilli powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 3-4 tbsp roasted sesame seed powder/til powder
  • 2-3 tsp roasted peanut powder / shengdanyacha kut
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking

METHOD :

  • First wash all the vegetables and then chopped them in small pieces.
  • Next roast the til and peanuts and then grind them separately to a semi-coarse powder.
  • In a pan add oil and when the oil gets warmer to it add cumin seeds,mustard seed and crushed garlic and curry leaves.
  • Now when the garlic changes the colour add chilli powder,garam masala,coriander powder and mix them evenly.
  • Add til powder and peanut powder to the masala mix and give it a nice mix.
  • Now add the chopped vegetables to the pan and mix mix everything well.
  • Add salt to taste.
  • Add water to the pan so that the vegetables gets cooked properly.
  • Adjust the consistency of the bhaji according to your need.
  • Let it cook for next 10 minutes or till the vegetables gets cooked properly.Let the bhaji cook on medium flame.
  • Your Bhogichi Bhaji is ready.
  • Serve it with roti/chapaati/bhakri.
  • To my experience it goes nice with Bajra Bhakri.
