Nashik city in the state of Maharashtra is a famous destination for Misal Pav.It has been one of the most highly consumed breakfast dish in many Misal outlets which are spread in large numbers across the city.It can be served as a snacks,as a breakfast dish or as a full meal in main course lunch.
This dish which is also a popular street food in many parts of Maharashtra like Puneri-Misal of Pune,Kolhapurchi-Misal of Kolhapur,Khandeshi Misal and Nagpuri Misal.
In Nashik, Misal is generally served with sprouted usal to which a gravy is added and is topped with Spicy Tarri which gives a hot and spicy taste to the Misal for which it is famous for.Finally it is garnished with Sev,Chopped Onions and Chopped Coriander.Finally served with Pav,Curd and Roasted or Fried Papad.Famous for its spicy flavour lets start with this spicy and mouthwatering dish.

INGREDIENTS :
For Garnishing :
- Bhavnagari shev
- Curd (optional)
- Papad(optional)
- Coriander,Lemon and onion for garnishing.
For Usal :
- 200gms of sprouted matki usal
- 1 tspoon turmeric powder
- 2-3 tspoon coriander(dhana) powder
- 2 tbspoon oil
- Curry leaves
- Water as required
- Salt to taste.
For Gravy :
- 2-3 Onion paste
- 2 medium sized tomatoes paste
- 8-9 Garlic cloves
- 1/2 inch of Ginger
- 8-9 kaju (cashew nuts)
- Sliced coconut pieces
- 2-3 tbspoon red chilli powder
- 2 tbspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon biryani masala
- Turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
For Tarri :
- 1/2 tbspoon Kashmiri chilli powder
- 1 tspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbspoon red chilli powder
- Water 1/2 cup
- 2-3 tbspoon oil.
METHOD :
For Preparing Usal :
- Add oil to the pan.
- Put curry leaves,turmeric, dhana powder,and salt to the oil.
- Now put the sprouted matki usal to the pan and mix it well.
- Add required water to the mixture.
- Let it cook for next 10 minutes,till sprouted matki/usal gets cooked properly.
For Preparing Gravy:
- Put oil to the pan.
- Put the onion paste first.Fry it till the colour of the paste turns brown.
- Now add tomato paste.
- Saute the tomato paste properly.
- After this add kaju,ginger,garlic and sliced coconut paste.
- Mix it well.
- Add chilli powder,garam masala,biryani masala,turmeric powder to the paste.
- Stir it nicely.
- Add salt to taste.
- Now cook the paste till it leaves the oil in pan.
- Now add the required water to the paste.
- Let the gravy cook for next 10 minutes.
- Gravy for the misal is ready.
For Preparing Tarri:
- Put oil to the pan.
- To it add chilli powder, Kashmiri chilli powder, tumeric and salt to taste.
- Mix it.
- Now add water to the mixture.
- Let it boil for 5-10 minutes.
- Your tarri is ready.
Recipe Note :

- For plating first add boiled matki usal to the plate.Then add the gravy.After this add shev,onion,and coriander to the plate.Now add the tarri as required.
- Place the pav in the plate.
- Place curd and papad if required.
- Your delicious Misal Pav is ready to eat.
STEP BY STEP PREPARATION METHOD OF MISAL-PAV :
For Preparing Usal :
- Add oil to the pan.

- Now put the matki usal to the pan and mix it well.
- Add required water to the mixture.
- Let it cook for next 10 minutes till matki gets cooked properly.
- Your cooked matki/usal is ready.
For Preparing Gravy:
- Put oil to the pan.
- Put the onion paste first.Fry it till the colour of the paste turns brown.
- Now add tomato paste.
- Mix the tomato paste properly with the onion paste.
- After this add kaju,ginger,garlic and sliced coconut paste.
- Mix it well.
- Add chilli powder,garam masala,biryani masala,turmeric powder to the paste.
- Stir it nicely.
- Add salt to taste.
- Now cook the paste till it leaves the oil in pan.
- Now add the required water to the past.
- Let the gravy boil for next 10 minutes.
- Gravy for the misal is ready.
For Preparing Tarri:
- Put oil to the pan.
- To it add chilli powder, Kashmiri chilli powder, tumeric and salt to taste.
- Mix it.
- Now add water to the mixture.
- Let it boil for 5-10 minutes.
- Your tarri is ready.
